Wearable Devices

Long before Apple Watch and Android Wear were launched, Pebble was the first smartwatch to accessorize our wrists with a gadget that complements our phones. Looking back we can see how far we’ve come with the smartwatch technology. Today, we took things even further and we are proud to announce the first Red Panic Button – smartwatch integration with Pebble because all classics deserve an upgrade.

01

The integration is a huge step to a “hands-free” panic app where you can still use the app even if you cannot reach your phone. This means that whenever you are in a stressful situation, you don’t need to reach for your phone anymore and become obvious in your attempts to call for help (in case you are confronted with an urban accident or a street crime situation where discretion is mandatory not to alert perpetrators). The Red Panic Button app can now be accessed via your smartwatch in a timely manner, thus offering you an ever higher level of protection and a quicker solution for safety.
Once you pushed the Panic Button via the smartwatch, the app does its miracle work, sending your GPS coordinates together with your distress message to your emergency contacts’ list, thus making search and rescue operations a lot more efficient.

To get the application for your Pebble, simply open your Pebble app for Android or iOS, and search for the Red Panic Button. Next, you have to download the app and connect it with your watch via bluetooth.

After connecting your devices, you just have to assign a button from Pebble watch to the Red Panic Button app and you are ready to go! It is just as simple and the benefits are tremendous, just as you will see next.

Case studies

werableJoanna is a very active woman and loves getting involved in all the outdoor activities that cross her path. Being always on the go, she is well organized especially when it comes to her family and kids. They are a blessing and a challenge and she is up for everything life brings her way.

This summer Joanna found out just how challenging life can be and getting a little help along the way is crucial if you want to pass all tests with flying colors.

After packing and sending the kids away to summer camp with the local Scouts, Joanna found herself in front of a full week with some time to do her things and just enjoy a breather. So, the first thing she did was to resume her running in the morning routine, before going to work.

After three days of getting back in shape she found herself running in the new part of her neighborhood where there still were some construction materials to clear out and some rubble. Not wanting to turn back she kept running past some traffic cones that she thought were left behind, when in fact the cones were signaling a sewer hole that wasn’t closed yet.

Unfortunately, she didn’t get enough time to stop or avoid it and fell right into it. Because the hole was too tight it was difficult to get out her phone from her hidden pocket in the track suit and call the emergency line or push the Red Panic Button. Luckily for her she did have a Pebble device on her wrist.
Having installed the panic button app just days before, she was able to push a side button on her smartwatch and get her husband to her rescue.

This app integration was a lifesaver for her, preventing a bad situation become a fatal one. Even though she wasn’t badly injured, she would have been trapped in the sewer hole for a long time before anybody would hear her scream for help, and the risks for dehydration or having a panic attack would only increase.

After about 5 minutes since pressing the Pebble button for the Red Panic app, Joanna could hear her husband call for her nearby and so she could answer back and find each other easily.

There are many situations in life where you cannot reach for your phone, but the watch is always on your wrist and at hand. Take advantage of what technology has to offer and always, always put your safety first!

Tried it with Pebble Watch and IPhone and there is a cross on the phone when you enter the app on the Pebble. It often reports it has lost connection to the watch, despite the other apps still be connected to the phone.

    Hi Andy,
    There are cases when if the Pebble got disconnected from the device, the reconnection to that device produces an error.
    For troubleshooting the following steps can be performed:
    1. With the Bluetooth on go to device settings on the iPhone, in the Bluetooth category find your Pebble device in My Devices and tap Forget Device.
    2. Pair the Pebble again with your iPhone.
    Other ideas:
    Make sure the Pebble/Apple Watch usage is enabled in the Red Panic Button app – this can be done from the Wearables screen;
    Make sure you have at least a panic contact configured on Red Panic Button phone app;
    Usually there is also a message along the icon on the wearables app, if we can get that message it would make things much easier to troubleshoot.
    Regards,
    Daniela
